how about having the users sign for a tagboard service, one that is separate from tabulas? there are a lot of free tagboard services on the net, some even customizable to suit the site's colors. there's tag-board.com, zonkboard.com (which offers over 150 smileys!), oggix.com (with an assortment of smileys too!), cbox.ws, shoutmix.com, etc. my first tagboard was from chatter.flooble.com, but i'm now using myshoutbox.com. (it's not perfect and also occasionally down, but it goes back up. i think i've had my shoutbox since my old site, way back july 2003). it would certainly free up server space! and then you can just add some Help instructions on how/where to insert the tagboard code.
the small paper icon--the one that takes you to the tagger's tabulas, regardless of posting name, hence an added security against false taggers--would be lost, however.

i have a problem though, my gallery and usericons wont show up. all that it displays are boxes with little red X's on them.

i was browsing through old comments and it looks like thats a problem for those who changed usernames. i changed mine from janeh to jane_
