Since there are quite a few new people joining Tabulas, I'll write a quick post that'll explain a lot of stuff about Tabulas:

- Tabulas is still a fledgling service. It is by no way a polished project. Unfortunately, I've tied my time down with another project (which will interest you people who like the gallery system here), so I haven't been able to work on fixing bugs or new features.

- There are a ton of new features in planning for the next upgrade of Tabulas. However, there is NO development for Tabulas right now, meaning any new features would happen within weeks at the earliest.

- Tabulas is mainly free because of a personal philosophy regarding service-based sites. However, understand that although this personal philosophy allows for all these free features, you should always consider going to paid accounts when possible. It's only $25/year and will go a long way in supporting this site. Unfortunately there is very little you get from getting a paid account right now besides more space for your gallery and access to hit logging data. But this will change as I get a chance to work on new features.

- There will never be advertisements on your journals. However, we ask you do NOT try to hide or remove the top navigation bar (regardless of how ugly it is. So consider it a trade-off.

- There are no plans to "roll-back" or restrict free features unless it becomes financially impossible for me to continue supporting this site without rolling back features. I am a jobless student, so this site doesn't exactly have the deepest pockets.

If you're having issues or problems, please comment below. I try my best to handle all support questions promptly.

*oops sorry if I posted in the wrong place*

I noticed payment option is only by paypal. Paypal isn't available in the Philippines. I hope you consider other payment options like 2checkout.com/credit card options as our country have a lot of potential users. I've been promoting it when there were less than 10 users but look our country could be the second largest group next to the USA.

Keep it up :)

Is there any way to edit some of the variable tags, like ! or ! or anything? I've put up an entirely different layout on my tabulas and some things aren't showing up with it. Thanks!

Welll, like the tagboard or date tags, as even my mangled HTML didn't show up ;).

I dunno if this has been addressed but #1 with the entry formatting, the current mood/music/books don't seem to show up. And #2, does anyone know how to edit the profile and gallery html? The font is too big and I'm not sure how to go about it.
Comment posted on September 14th, 2003 at 12:11 PM
It probably doesn't show up because you don't have the proper commands input into your entry template.

I'm also having problems with the mood music thing. I have the proper commands but it still won't work. :( i've tried editing the other entry templates but no use.
Comment posted on September 14th, 2003 at 07:49 PM
I checked it again and again but it seems alright, since I pre-used an existing template and just changed the colours around.

Forget problem #2. I've fixed it somewhat. I'm an idiot. Sorry for asking so many questions. :(

can we please have icons for moods as a kao or something?
Comment posted on September 14th, 2003 at 01:22 AM
a kao?
Comment posted on September 14th, 2003 at 07:19 AM
Kaos are these cute little blobie icon thingies that people make.

Example:

They're rather cute, I've been working on making some of my own.

Now that I think about it, you might wanna add something that will allow you to edit comments. -_-;;;

This better show up. >>;;

Editing comments was left out on purpose.
Comment posted on September 14th, 2003 at 05:18 PM
Yeah, LJ doesn't allow you to edit comments either, but it's annoying when you make a mistake and you can't even delete the comment or fix it.

Hi, I've just noticed a small problem with setting usericon keywords. If you only select one (or, actually, any number less than all of them) to rename, it still resets the keywords for all the other unselected icons.

This may already have been reported, but it was just something that took me a while to figure out when putting in my usericons. I would hope that having "no changes" selected would result in no changes...
Comment posted on September 14th, 2003 at 12:34 AM
mweh, and now I see that it indeed already has been reported. Doi...

I guess we'll just have to wait for development to re-start, any ways...

arg you don't show up
<!--blogring-->
<!--linkroll-->
<!--contentroll-->
Comment posted on September 13th, 2003 at 03:33 PM
You need <!--sharedjournals--> in the main template and the other two commands as you mentioned. but you also need to specify the output of the linkroll and contentoll under styles. go there and input in linkroll and contentoll boxes <!--link--> and <!--content-->
Comment posted on September 13th, 2003 at 04:01 PM
i thought linkroll is a list of all the links in your contents -> links section. is there something like that?
Comment posted on September 13th, 2003 at 04:51 PM
it is.
Comment posted on September 13th, 2003 at 07:18 PM
it is? well it's not showing up like that tho. it shows up as whatever i put in the styles -> linkrolling input. even if it's just plain text. *confused* :(

aww i see. thanks for the quick response. i will make a tutorial about how to add links on the fanlisting site :)

How do I delete an account? I registered for xshinsei and I didn't realize that this name was open too.
Comment posted on September 13th, 2003 at 02:05 PM
there is no delete function.

you should of used the change username feature instead of registering a whole new account ...
Comment posted on September 13th, 2003 at 03:03 PM
ok, problem solved. I passed the xshinsei account over to a new user.

sorry about that! and thanks for providing such an awesome service! :)

feature request:
can there be an option for the posting to NOT get e-mail notifications by default?

can there be a [/break] to end read more area?

can there be a [break="my own text] so it shows as ("my own text") instead of ("read more")

thanks :)
Comment posted on September 13th, 2003 at 01:29 PM
the option is under the 'styles' tab with all the other options.

that's an option for the future =)

This is really embarrasing. But I wanted to create a community journal, and misspelled the email adress, so the activation code never arrived. Could you help me please, maybe? I signed up with the username turtles, and accidently put: connie@turelina.org instead of connie@turtelina.org. Could you help me? Please?
Comment posted on September 13th, 2003 at 09:57 AM
Huh? You don't need e-mails to start a community journal. Shared Journals are created under Community ...

But I've fixed and activated that account anyways.
Comment posted on September 13th, 2003 at 06:16 AM
Where's the advanced panel under privacy settings? :B I couldn't find it.
Comment posted on September 13th, 2003 at 09:56 AM
When you go to the "Add an Entry" page, look for the "Advanced" link right under the second top navigation bar. It'll pop up more entry options ... and you'll see a "Stauts" dropdown.
Comment posted on September 13th, 2003 at 04:27 AM
Is it possible to have my username and icon not show up on the main page, next to all my entries? (I hope I made sense).
Comment posted on September 13th, 2003 at 09:55 AM
Turn the checkbox off of "Enable Usericons" under Styles.

i hate tabulas. everything's so great that i didn't realize it was already 5 am and i was still fiddling with my journal and testing its features. :P

OK, I have a question *hehe* I know people are bombarding you lately but this thing is quickly gaining popularity. I selected to have my user icon show up in an entry... But it isn't showing up. Why is that?
Comment posted on September 12th, 2003 at 11:42 PM
My guess is because you didn't do it properly :/

hmm, i have this weird problem on my site. when ever i post a link to another site it always goes to my site first like if posted a link to google, when i click on the link it would go to [www.tabulas.com/~raindancer/www.google.com] and the same thing happens on my links page. bug? or did i click on an option that allowed that?
Comment posted on September 12th, 2003 at 11:42 PM
when you type in a URL, you need to type in http:// before www. this isn't a limitation with tabulas; it's the way all hyperlinks work.
Comment posted on September 12th, 2003 at 06:52 PM
thank you for Tabulas! it's such a pretty journalling community. :)

anyway, i was wondering if there is a code to cut entries? like in LJ? :)
Comment posted on September 12th, 2003 at 11:41 PM
[break] when you type an entry

is it possible for me to post an entry ONLY to my blogring? i don't want it visible in my account's main page.
Comment posted on September 12th, 2003 at 11:41 PM
Yes, look in the advanced panel under privacy settings.
Comment posted on September 13th, 2003 at 08:25 AM
woops, i didn't realize that. thanks!
Comment posted on September 12th, 2003 at 05:28 PM
Eh, why when I upload one of my icons it gets resized to 90x90 when it's 100x100? Isn't 100x100 the correct size for icons? x_x Is this a bug or am I just not doing it right? -_-
Comment posted on September 12th, 2003 at 06:01 PM
Oh, and I just noticed someone else, if your icons have transparencies, it will be filled in with some white even if they're saved as transparent? x.x They come up on LJ as transparent...
Comment posted on September 12th, 2003 at 11:41 PM
No... I'm not sure what the deal is there. I had no problem uploading transparent gifs. And the proper size is 90px, not 100px.
Comment posted on September 13th, 2003 at 01:59 AM
-_-; Sadly on the icon upload page it says 100x100 not 90x90 -_-;;;;;;

Notice: All usericons will be automatically rethumbnailed to either 100px width or 100px height!
Comment posted on September 12th, 2003 at 03:44 PM
thanks for the quick reply and fixes. just one more to add to your list. or maybe you've already done. i'm sorry i took a quick look at the documentation but i don't see a good explanation about how to do "read more" sorta things for the journal.
Comment posted on September 12th, 2003 at 04:24 PM
it's one of the secrets that only expert users know ;)

yeah documentation sucks.... oh well :(

(hint: try typing in [break] in your entry)
Comment posted on September 12th, 2003 at 02:58 PM
hrm i just realized your service doesn't support foreign languages like chinese :( unlike lj.
Comment posted on September 12th, 2003 at 03:04 PM
yeah, i've had my hands full right now just getting this to work ... the unicode support should be added in the future once i get the feature infrastructure straight.

Comment posted on September 13th, 2003 at 09:54 AM
it's been fixed now. everyone else had been using the different preset formats.

hello, just a suggestion. Would it be possible to have Tabulas crosspost to other LJ code-run sites (such as Blurty)? Anyway, I'm loving this so far... heehee... keep up the great work!
Comment posted on September 12th, 2003 at 01:41 PM
I think I've added support, but I don't have a blurty account to test it out on. Would you mind testing it out? (Access via Entry Options link once in Entries Tab)

Comment posted on September 12th, 2003 at 04:49 AM
It's nice you confirmed that there'd be no ads on our journals. I'll see how it goes from here, maybe later I'll get myself a paid account. :)

P.S. I hope the "ugly top bar" remark wasn't from me.
Comment posted on September 11th, 2003 at 11:17 PM
one issue: i tried out the gallery. but after i uploaded my images, they become rather larger. not the original size i uploaded them in. i.e.
http://www.tabulas.com/~dodozhang21/gallery/album1793/23536.html

the original image size is
350x272

why?

oh and can the shared journals entries show up in your friends pages at all?
Comment posted on September 11th, 2003 at 09:51 PM
You can't add shared journals as friends, no. But if a friend posts the post to both the shared journal and their own journal it'll show up on your friends page.
Comment posted on September 11th, 2003 at 10:06 PM
oh okay. is it possible that we 'll be able to add that in the furture? because I'd like tpo be able to read the gshared journals and not have to check them individually
Comment posted on September 12th, 2003 at 02:15 AM
Possible, but not likely. The current way shared journals are dealt with don't allow for an easy solution ...
Comment posted on September 11th, 2003 at 07:16 PM
How do you make a community so that anyone can join without approval?
