We've implemented a rough version of a private messaging system for Tabulas. This is by no means done - we will be expanding this feature in the future (we hope to manage technical support with paid users with some future version of this feature).

Right now the messaging system is available under the Community Tab » Message Center.

When you send a message to a Tabulas member, it will show up as an extra box on the main 'add entry' page (send a message to yourself to see what I mean).

We have no added e-mail support for this feature yet, but we will be doing that shortly.

We've just added e-mail support so you can receive an e-mail whenever you get a private message. To enable e-mail notification (it is off by default), go to Preferences » E-Mail Settings » and look at the bottom.

Then skip this one. It's not important right now. I'll just not display it and the layout'll be fine (I'm only in one, it's no biggie.) Thanks!

Hmm, I think I lied. My clean copy of it is fine, it's the one I've edited that has lost the blogring. I'll ask a friend to look at my code. Sorry about that!

You're going to hate me for all of these posts. I checked again and the clean copy of Jigglypuff is actually NOT showing the shared journals. (It said on my template page that I had it enabled even after I had switched back to the original Jigglypuff template, so that's why I thought it was good to go.)

My journal currently is displaying a copy of JigglyPuff without having re-enabled the entry format and you'll see that my Shared Journal doesn't display.

Thanks again and I apologize for the pain in the butt.

I'll try to take a look at this tomorrow... i'm really reluctant to delve into the shared journal coding because it's going to all be scrapped and rewritten from scratch soon.

Sorry, I make a new comment instead of a reply. :(

I'm not sure if I found a bug or just can't figure this out in my template. If I use Jigglypuff, my Shared Journals show. If I create a new one based on Jigglypuff they don't. Any thoughts? (And I'm sorry to be posting so many questions today, but I'm all excited about my new toys!)

New question. I was going to add it to an item in the Forum but I don't know if we're supposed to do that yet. ;) And the Tokki journal has no place to ask.

Is there, or do you foresee there being any benefit to having an account at Tabulas *and* Tokki. In the "Offsite Image Hosting" post on the Forum, I see that you are thinking about the very thing I was going to request. That is, I have photos stored at Fotki.com. I'd bring them all to Tokki if I could link my Tokki and Tabulas accounts or display my Tokki photos here. (I'm mostly interested in the second option listed because I'd like to hotlink a couple of my images.) If there's no tangible benefit to using Tokki in conjunction with Tabulas I'm not sure I want to go to the trouble of downloading all my pictures to upload them here. Does that make sense? (This is not urgent by any means.) :)

Offsite image hosting will probably never make a play into Tabulas or Tokki anytime soon (unfortunately). But there will be definitely be a added bonus to having a Tokki account on top of your Tabulas. I do intend to link the two projects together; right now in the most basic form I'm workign on a simple export/import between the two sites.

But there will clearly be a tangible benefit to having a Tokki account on top of your Tabulas account. I know i haven't been too specific, but I think it'll become clear when I get Tokki up and running.

hm i tried using it.. and it said to send to other people.. after username, use a semi-colon.. so i did... but it says... only the first username that i put has received it.. the others said something like We could not locate in the Tabulas system.. and i'm sure i didn't make a mistake when i wrote the usernames...

If it said it couldn't find the user, then it probably doesn't exist :/ or you typed it wrong... what user were you trying?

By the way.. this still needs fixing: http://tabulas.com/~sanjiv/gallery/album2988/32583.html.

I still see that box on my control panel, but with no options in the drop down menu.

Good job ;)

You really need to do a feature freeze and finish up all that's on your to do list. ;)

Nm, you just fixed it. :)

BTW, I can't read the messages I sent in my outbox/sentbox. It gives the following error:

Error: Message not found

The message you requested could not be retrieved. Please report any errors to the Tabulas journal.

Um, when you get the chance, please check your PM. Rather important and it concerns everybody, but is of a sensitive nature.

Comment posted on October 8th, 2003 at 12:27 AM
There was a short error with this. It's been fixed, but you can change your password from under the Preferences tab, change username/password

You have mail (and some money). Paypal makes it so easy to give you money! :D

Alright, so I've been doing some research, because I want to get a paid account to support Tabulas. I have a few questions.

1. My control panel says there are 6 beta accounts left. Is this still accurate and if there are any left can this timestamp count as getting my foot in the door on one of those? :D

2. I *know* I've seen an entry or comment somewhere discussing what happens to beta accounts after a year is up. I've looked all through the Tabulas entries. Maybe it's in your journal. I'll try to look but could you please direct me to that if you can find it or remind me what happens after the subscription time is up?

3. Are 6 month memberships eligible for Beta status (assuming there are any beta accounts left)?

Thank you SO much. The progress you're making is amazing.

Hey, although it might be a bit late to answer... maybe to anybody else who reads these comments will find them useful.

1.) The number is real-time.
2.) Beta account status are active for as long as you keep your subscription alive.
3.) Yes =)
Comment posted on October 8th, 2003 at 12:34 AM
Re #2: Does that mean a paid subscription or just not letting your account go dormant? The reason I ask is that Paid Status gets more than Beta (http://www.tabulas.com/~tabulas/6314.html) so I'm confused as to what benefit there would be (even if not currently in place) for being Beta/Paid rather than just Paid.
Comment posted on October 8th, 2003 at 12:46 AM
Oooh. Confusion. That beta limitation was for free beta accounts. Paid-Beta accounts get more than paid accounts (http://www.tabulas.com/~tabulas/20711.html)

:)

I just realized you very sneakily didn't answer my question. ;) I'm looking for the post that explaines what happens to my account if I can't renew my paid subscription but keep using my tabulas.
Comment posted on October 8th, 2003 at 01:11 PM
oh. didn't meant to not answer your question :D

if your beta period expires and you are unable to keep your account, then one of a few things happens:

1.) your account status will be kicked back to free status
2.) your quotas will be kicked back to free status

if you exceeded your quotas, nothing will be deleted, but you will not be able to add more stuff (e.g. if your gallery is greater than the quota of the free limit, then your quota will be kicekd back to those of the free users but you will not lose any images).

Man you're fast!! Thanks for that info! I was wondering if it'd go back to free or free/beta and what would happen to excess images. Cool.

Much more clear! Thanks!
