Entries for January, 2006

Yesterday I cleared out the deletion queue of user accounts, and I also started clearing out usernames that were unverified; so if there's been a username that's been taken by an unverified account, it should now be available!

I will be more consistent in the deleting of acccounts as well as clearing out unverified accounts - I'm aiming to run this every two weeks.

Hope everybody is having a great new year so far!

There have been problems with the change username function for some time now - I have finally resolved these issues, so changing your username should not screw up your galleries and usericons from here on out.

If, in the past, you changed your username and your galleries stopped working, please comment below with your old username and I will fix the problem for you.

My deepest apologies, and I'll try hard not to let this happen again ;D

Over the next day, I am fixing up the billing system; some patron accounts will be listed as 'free' accounts while I transition the system over. If you DO know that you have a patron account, please leave a comment below and I will move your account over ASAP.

This was the result of an error in our upgrade script - I am manually using PayPal to check what accounts are patron and what aren't- please be patient with me as I fix everything up

Sorry about these problems, but this is only a one-time change; once everything is smoothed over the billing system should be a lot easier to manage!

I've checked and inputted all PayPal subscriptions into the system. Because I did this by hand, there is a chance I may have overlooked a few accounts. If you are either of patron (paid) or beta status and your account does not reflect this, please leave a comment below and I will fix it asap.

Once again, my apologies for this rough transition. It's for the best, though, as I can start working on cool new features for you!

The advanced editor has been updated for Tabulas so it SHOULD work with FireFox 1.5 now. Please let me know if you have any problems.

I've also fixed up the IP banning issue; IPs that were banned were still somehow posting comments; this should now be resolved. Please let me know if banned IPs are still commenting in your journals.

Sorry, but I didn't mean to break the smilies in the advanced editor. Not only have I added them back, but I've also fixed them up so the colors actually reflect the smilies you want, instead of always using the yellow smilies.

Enjoy!

I'll be doing some updates on Tuesday, January 17th around 7PM EST to the main page - during this time you may not be able to access your control panel or the Tabulas home page. However, your journals will all still be working normally.

I will update this once the upgrades are complete.

There has been a TON of work going on with Tabulas lately - I've automated the billing center, started consolidating subsections of Tabulas (like help.tabulas.com), and started rewriting the backend of Tabulas.

Today is the first day I get to actually show YOU guys something that you can benefit from!

Tabulas has a brand new front-page. I know the old version had more character, but this one is much easier for me to maintain, and I think it's much cleaner

You'll notice the new front page also combines the old help center in one location ... and the new help center is now combined with a SUPPORT center! That's right... you can start submitting help tickets if you need help with your accounts.

For you patron (paid) account members, you can also now track when you made your last payment and when your account will downgrade from the accounts page. This page will also show you what your account quotas as well!

I am spending nearly all my free time on Tabulas development, so I hope to have TONS of exciting news for you guys regarding new Tabulas features in the near future!

I think I've earned the right to plug the upgrades...

please please PLEASE if you think Tabulas is a nice product, please consider upgrading to a patron account; it's only $28/year, $16/six months or $9/three months. Ever since I removed advertisements from all journals, patron accounts are the ONLY way I can pay off the server fees!

A long time ago, somebody requested that I add support for some version of advanced smilies. I've added a bunch of advanced smilies which are only accessible from the advanced editor (click your smilies icon to see them).

I downloaded these a LONG time ago with the intention of implementing them - as far as I know, the license on these is freeware ... if anybody knows about the licensing, please let me know.

In the future, I will be adding support so you can upload your OWN advanced smilies (to keep or to share with your friends!)

If anybody has an icon set they'd like to donate for use at Tabulas that they created, please contact me!

Until then...

Over the upcoming weekend, we will be switching DNS providers for Tabulas.  This is to help improve the Tabulas network by spreading out the physical location of essential Tabulas services.

This should not result in any downtime, but some of you guys may experience a temporary inability to access your sites; this should be temporary and will not require any work on your behalf to resolve (your ISP will automatically fix this).

Don't forget that we've recently added a Help Center where you can post your questions about your Tabulas accounts!

There have been some small updates to the help center:

  • Fixed up links to the old home page in the documentation
  • Added an important new document:  What can I do about comment spam?
  • Fixed up display problems in Internet Explorer (the bars had weird heights!)
  • Added the capability for me to edit/add documents much easier than before

If you have any documentation requests, please leave them as a comment below

Update: Sorry for the slight downtime on the main server; I've been updating the new home page with the old statistics page and I ran into some rather critical bugs. They've all been resolved, and I will be monitoring the server to make sure no new bugs are introduced into the system over the next day or two (a lot of the work I did was automated scripts which run at a specific time each day, so it's hard to make sure everything is working until that time passes).

On the statistics page, you'll find information about the total number of useres, entries, images, communities, etc. You can also find a nifty little graph that shows how Tabulas has grown since it was created March of 2003.
