Entries for February, 2004

Based on some of the changes we made to commenting a few days ago, we've also slightly upgraded the "Feedback Log" page ... it is now listed as "Comment Log" and is a bit more comprehensive than Feedback Log previous was. The ability to filter yourself off your comment list is optional; you can turn on filtering on a per-session basis.

The UI is a bit better now; when you hit 'delete comment,' it takes you back to the comment log rather than sitting on an empty page with just a success message.

Free users are now restricted to being able to only moderate their last 50 comments.

Paid users can moderate all their comments; there is also a 'search by username' feature that you can use to quickly sort your comments.

You can also now delete comments you've left in other journals as long as it hasnt been longer than an hour since you posted your comment. Go to your "Comment Log" and scroll down to the very bottom and there will be a link to "Comments You've Left."

We've fixed up the file uploads page where you can upload downloadable files to your account; when you upload, the filename is automatically cleaned of any unfriendly characters, and all spaces are changed to underscores.

The page will also list the number of files you've uploaded and tell you what your file upload quota is.

For those of you who paid for beta accounts, you will be issued three lifetime coupons (transferrable) for accounts from the upcoming Lightbox7.com, which serves as a centralized photo hosting and photo sharing site.

These lifetime coupons are for a 66.7% discount; meaning whatever plans you buy will only be 1/3 of the real cost. The coupons will not be stackeable on one account.

To find out more about Lightbox7.com, please visit their website. They have not currently opened for registrations yet, as they are in continued testing of their product.

We've had to close free registrations as our servers can no longer handle the loads of free users that use this service. We are hoping to reopen registrations on March 2nd if we can get a new server to help handle the loads.

If you haven't, please consider getting a paid account.

We've reenabled registrations for users; however, we've disabled the gallery feature. We are currently moving all images to a separate server and will reopen the uploading as soon as we're done (which will probably happen by tomorrow evening).

We apologize for the downtime in the gallery.

We are currently experiencing slight problems with the move; right now (as I write this) all your gallery images are being ported over to the new server; this process should take all night.

Once that is done, I will enable registrations again (as well as allow you to 'change your username'). I had to temporarily disable both of these while I import the galleries over.

I'm horribly sorry for all this inconvenience; I'm working my butt off trying to keep the downtime to an absolute minimum

Update: Ok, we promise; registrations are open FOR good now. However, galleries/change username STILL does *not* work.

We've moved all the images to the new server and are beginning to serve up images from our new server. The entry attachments and image-autolinks (where you go [ imgid: #id ]) should automatically redirect to the new server locations.

Go to your gallery and right click on any image and go to Properties ... you'll see that each image is now being served off of aces.tabulas.com (our first image server).

I will be writing a script to run tonight that will update all HARDLINKS in your entries to the new locations (although you should be using the image-autolinks tag for this specific purpose).

Some notes: your gallery image location is now off a folder (instead of being in a general /gallery/attach/ location). This means that we can start to "remember" filenames when you upload them and quit generating the ugly random string for each image.

We are now working to interface the new image server with our control panel so you can upload images Hopefully by tomorrow morning everything will be resolved.

Thanks once again for your continued patience.

Image uploading is back online. It should work zippy; all images are now being upload directly to our separate server

Thank you for your patience.

Edit: If you still cannot upload an image, try a force reload of the uploads page (Hold Ctrl + Shift and hit "Refresh" in your browser).

If it still doesn't work, please post in a comment what error messages you are getting.

Simply posting "It doesn't work" is of no help to me.

Edit: It seems that if you registered an account over the past week then you'll have trouble adding images to the gallery. We will track down this problem tomorrow and fix it. Until then, please refrain from posting your gallery problems. If you cannot upload images and you did NOT register an account last week, please post below.
